Background

Beto Pallares founded Joseph Advisory Services (JAS) in 2006. His professional experience spans working for top-tier strategy consulting firms, co-founding start-ups, international business development, nonprofit management, venture capital and military service. In the summer of 2009, he co-founded Cottonwood Capital Partners I, the general partner of Cottonwood Technology Fund I. Late 2014, Beto parted ways with Cottonwood and formed Proficio Capital Management (PCM), which is the exclusive manager of three investments previously managed by CCP. These three portfolio companies, Exagen, FibeRio, and InView, comprise the portfolio of NewPath Venture Capital, whose General Partner is PCM. Beto has a particular interest in seed and early-stage companies with emphasis in the material sciences and nanotechnology areas. He serves on the board of six companies, four of which are material sciences related and two are biotech/med device related. He is also the investor-in-residence at New Mexico State University, identifying sources of capital, best practices, and structuring investment opportunities for university-related technologies. He also serves on the limited partnership advisory committees of several venture funds. In addition to his venture activities, Beto is a Kauffman Fellow and a Cross Sector Leadership Fellow, at the Presidio Institute, an initiative of the Presidio Trust. Beto holds a B.A., and MBA and a PhD. He is a sought after speaker tech trends, incubation and commercialization. Beto is married, and enjoys fatherhood. When not watching his kids while his wife, a professional photographer, is on assignment, he engages in reading, writing and community service, including service in Rotary International and Gideons International.
