    Background

Looking for opportunities to blend years of business experience in academia. My professional experience in recruiting, training, coaching and developing the careers of students and professionals coupled with my current academic trajectory (5th-year F.I.U. PhD. candidate in Public Affairs) fit perfectly with academic excellence and a student-focused environment. My many years of leading, coaching and mentoring professionals and students also prepare and nurture global 21st-century leaders. As a transformational leader, I strive to influence others and create inclusive and diverse goal-oriented teams. This individualistic coaching and mentoring style which ties in with emotions, values, ethics, standards and long-term goals allows people to change and transform. This form of influence moves the team and organization to accomplish more than what is expected of them. I’ve learned from my coaches and mentors to be a mentor to the immediate team, a coach to the whole organization, the Board, analysts and other stakeholders. I’ve learned to deliver the vision and the 'how to' with passion while demonstrating my commitment to excellence and the organization daily in a visible way.

I clearly communicate the course expectations through the syllabus where all assignments, tests, projects and grade values. are clearly dated and defined. On a weekly basis, I consistently reiterate my expectations by redirecting students to the syllabus. Developing critical thinking skills and problem-solving strategies in the classroom will enable students to transfer these skills from the classroom to the boardroom.
I am participating in a six-month advanced teaching techniques course given by the Association of College and University Educators. The methods I use to engage students are classroom lectures, weekly group discussions, research papers and group presentations. I focus the students on learning inside and outside the classroom to connect the classroom activities to their potential careers or current lifestyles. I facilitate discussions on the importance of organizational skills and successful study habits to performance in the classroom.

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Public Administration ( projected dissertation defense is June 2018). My research interests include emergency management and nonprofit management. Her dissertation which was financially supported by a National Science Foundation Fellowship is entitled “The Gendered Priorities of Internally Displaced persons in post-earthquake Haiti”. It investigates the collective needs of women IDPs and their participation in the socio-economic and political reconstruction of Haiti. As the urgency of rebuilding fades from the International agencies’ and NGO agendas new events such as the cholera epidemic, and the deportation of a million Dominicans of Haitian descent create new Internally Displaced Persons.
