Background
My name is Roberto Gonzales, a Ph.D. candidate in Accounting at the University of Texas at Arlington. I am currently on the job market seeking a position as an Assistant Professor of Accounting. My journey into academia has been shaped by my extensive practical experience as a CPA and a content developer and my passion for teaching and research. Teaching Philosophy and Experience: My teaching philosophy centers on creating dynamic, student-centered learning environments where students actively participate in their own educational journey. Recognized with the 2023-2024 College of Business Graduate Teaching Associate Award, I teach courses in principles of financial accounting, intermediate accounting, and auditing, integrating real-world scenarios and industry trends to enhance learning outcomes. My practical experience and commitment to innovative pedagogy have been instrumental in engaging students and fostering meaningful learning experiences. Research Interests and Contributions: My research interests include auditing, debt contracting, and corporate social responsibility. My dissertation, "Are Prominent General Counsels Gatekeepers Under the WARN Act?" examines the compliance dynamics of the WARN Act and the role of general counsels. Additionally, I am involved in projects investigating Critical Audit Matters and short sellers, the impact of tax uncertainty on debt contracting, and the effects of layoffs on internal controls. My goal is to publish high-quality research that is both meaningful and relevant to business practice. Diversity and Community Involvement: As the son of immigrants and a U.S. Air Force veteran, I am deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. My experiences have shaped my understanding of the importance of respecting and valuing diverse perspectives.
