On the market doctoral candidate - Accounting
Assistant manager at Malaysian Accounting Standards Board
ContactBackground
It is with great enthusiasm that I am seeking a tenure-track assistant professor position in the accounting department at your university. I am in my final year of a doctoral program in accounting at the University of Georgia, with a planned graduation date of May 2019. Knowing early on that my long-term plan was to become an accounting researcher, I tailored my work experience to gain broad institutional knowledge about the accounting industry. In addition to working as an accounting consultant at a Big 4 firm, I helped to develop an accounting standard on derivatives and hedging for state and local governments at the Governmental Accounting Standards Board; and assisted Malaysian regulators with their IFRS adoption process while working at the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board. Not only do these experiences give me a unique perspective on the accounting industry that I can share with my students, but as importantly, they motivate my financial archival research agenda, which focuses on international accounting and capital markets, linguistics, investor tastes, audit, and Islamic finance. I believe my students deserve high-quality teaching that incorporates standard accounting theories and principles, examples of how those principles are applied in practice (e.g., current events), and summaries of relevant research that informs students. I have either taught or been a teaching assistant for introductory and advanced financial accounting classes as well as financial statement analysis, teaching undergraduate and graduate non-business majors, as well as graduate accounting and EMBA students. I earned a 4.7 out of 5.0 in my teaching evaluation for my introduction to financial accounting class for non-business majors. I am open to teaching any class at any level, but am especially comfortable teaching financial accounting, international accounting, financial statement analysis, audit, and managerial/cost accounting.
